Projektin aikana selvitettiin, miten tieto- ja viestintätekniikka voisi toimia perheen arkielämää tukevana ja perheitä yhdistävänä tekijänä. Erilaisin aineistonkeruumenetelmin tarkasteltiin myös, miten nykyinen tieto- ja viestintätekniikka vaikuttaa perheen arkielämään. Tarkoituksena oli myös selvittää perheiden osaamis-, kokemus- ja valmiustasoa sekä asenteita tieto- ja viestintätekniikan suhteen.

Työelämään tutustuminen on yksi yleisimmistä yrityksen ja koulun yhteistyömuodoista. Se on keskeinen osa kaikkien koulutusasteiden jakamaa työelämätietoutta. Tutkimuksen mukaan hyvin toteutettu tutustuminen luo kasvatuksellista perustaa ja ohjaa nuorta ammatillisessa suuntautumisessa. Keski-Suomen liiton aiemmalla Pedanet – hankkeella on luotu verkkoympäristö, joka on käytössä Keski-suomen kouluissa (yleissivistävä koulutus) sekä lukuisissa muissa oppilaitoksissa.

The project consortium has created a unique developmental approach for technology education: Compared to many other projects that have tried to involve girls in technology, the UPDATE approach includes a strong focus on early childhood and primary education, phases in which the attitudes are often formed. From th is understanding, it is far too late to start to try rising the girls' interest at only at secondary or later stages.
