The University of Jyväskylä will close the operations of its interdisciplinary research unit
The University of Jyväskylä decided on April 13, 2016 to end the operations of the independent interdisciplinary research institute, the Agora Center. In announcing its decision, the university stated its aim toward developing the recognized strengths of the Agora Center’s operations throughout all faculties, institutes, and university services.

The new Kangas residential area in Jyväskylä will be built as a cyber-secure area that provides infrastructure for companies to develop and test “smart city” solutions. The research group in the interdisciplinary Agora Center will create an experimentation platform for the swift development and testing of private and public smart city solutions and services in Kangas.

A special issue of Human Technology on Human Technology Choreographies now available
We are pleased to announce that the newest issue of the online journal Human Technology is now online. This thematic issue, titled Human–Technology Choreographies: Body, Movement, and Space, is the first of two focusing on the impact of the instrumental value, specifically movement, of and on design and use of technological objects.

School community development with a digital tool
The schools of Koulumäki and Keskuskoulu in the city of Äänekoski, Finland, have experimented with Ideaikkuna –a digital tool in developing school activities. During the past six months they listed ideas and development initiatives and discussed together with the school community. The Ideaikkuna opens up a possibility co-create, suggest solutions and add experiments related to the proposed ideas.

November 2016 issue of Human Technology now published
The new issue of the online journal Human Technology has been published. This issue comprises manuscripts that were submitted independently to our journal. Beginning January 1, 2017, the role of publisher of the journal Human Technology will be moved from the Agora Center to the Open Science Center at the University of Jyväskylä because of internal university restructuring. Day-to-day operations and ongoing open access will continue for Human Technology's without interruption.

Agora Center Spin-off is a presentation and exhibit of our achievements in many ways. What kinds of spin-offs have sprinted out from the Agora Center during the years? We will first have a seminar presenting our aims and achievements from 15-17 in the Agora Auditorium 1 and then a phenomenal after-party in the Lea Pulkkinen hall. Come have fun together with the AC staff, alumni, friends, and partners. If you have ideas, please let us know! Digital equipment for developing children’s multiliteracy
STORIES (Fostering Early Childhood Media Literacy Competencies) is a project examining digital storytelling in early childhood education. The project started in autumn 2015, and the Agora Center participates in it from the University of Jyväskylä.

Agora Doctoral Dissertation Award to Jing Yang
The Agora Center of the University of Jyväskylä celebrated its 16th anniversary on 16 March 2016 and granted the annual Agora Doctoral Dissertation Award for a multidisciplinary dissertation significant for the development of innovations that serve people and benefit society. For the first time, the award was handed to an international researcher who has completed a doctoral degree in Jyväskylä. The awarded person is MA, PhD Jing Yang.
